Glenn and Amy Putnam Named Sierra Madre Citizens of the Year

The Putnam have been active volunteers for more than 10 years with many organizations around the city.

Glenn and Amy Putnam have been named Sierra Madre's 2010 Citizens of the Year by the . This marks the second year in a row that a couple has been named the town's Citizen(s) of the Year, with Louise and the late Dr. Paul Neiby having received the honor in 2009.

Glenn Putnam has been a member and Board member of the Sierra Madre Historical Preservation Society for more than five years, and is currently the marketing director for the organization. For more than ten years, he has been a vine docent at the , and is the bus coordinator at the Wistaria Festival. He was named a Library Trustee in 2010. He is past president of the Sierra Madre Garden Club, served as a Committee Member on the Friends of the Library Wine Tasting, and has been active with .  In addition to all of these Sierra Madre volunteer efforts, he also has been a member of the  for more than ten years.

His wife Amy is also active with the Sierra Madre Historical Preservation Society.  She has been a member and Board member for more than five years, and is currently serving as treasurer, and according to her nomination, is working hard to upgrade the financial records for the Society "into the computer age." She was in charge of the Society's booths at the Wistaria Festival, the Art Fair, and the Fourth of July festivities in 2010. She was appointed to the  in 2010, and has also served as a Wistaria Vine docent for more than 10 years.  She was president of the Civic Club in 2009/2010. She is also active with the , and has in the past served as a docent on the Garden Tour for Creative Arts and filled a variety of leadership roles with the ,  as president and as Chairperson for its . She has also volunteered at the Chamber, and in 2005 even won the Chamber's Chili Cook-off.

Friends of the Putnams who were viewing a movie at the home of Jay Whitcraft broke into applause when the announcement was made. 

"I do feel awful because there are so many more qualified and dedicated and competent volunteers than we are," Amy said. "It's rather embarrassing because we just do what we do."

The Putnams will be honored at a dinner to be held in the Chandelier Room at  on Saturday, Jan. 22 at 6:30 p.m. The Mercy Powell Jazz Trio will perform during cocktail hour and dinner.
