Mother's Day Tea with Jane Austen

The Sierra Madre Woman's Club and The Sierra Madre Public Library host high tea with Jane Austen.

It was an afternoon of Victorian wit, charm, and tea at the historic Essex House of the . The third annual was a delight for women and young girls of all ages as the honorable author Jane Austen played by Mary Burkin, and her brother Henry Austen, played by Russell Edge, recited passages of Austen classics such as Sense and Sensibility and Emma.

"In all the years that I have worked in the libraries, I have never met anyone, female or male, if they are willing to admit it, who did not like, if not love Jane Austen. Her portraits of human nature are spot on and her themes are universal and timeless," said Stephanie Vitale, library technition of the Sierra Madre Library and publicist for the event.

After the performance, tea, sandwiches, fruit and sweets were served and enjoyed. Rosemary Morabito, President of the Sierra Madre Woman's Club, expressed much gratitude to the members of the club for their hard work in kitchen, and also to all participants for their support.
