Today is the Summer Solstice

June 20 is the first day of summer and the longest day of the year.

Today marks the summer solstice, also known as the first day of summer and the longest day of sunlight this year. You’ll experience just over 14-and-a-half hours of sunlight today. Don’t forget the sunscreen!

This morning the sun rose at 5:41 a.m. in Southern California. Sunset will be at 8:07 p.m.

The exact start of summer will be today at 4:08 p.m. PST. That’s when the sun is the farthest north in the sky and directly above the Tropic of Cancer, according to the Huffington Post.

Though summer usually means long, hot days and dry air… the temperatures in Sierra Madre will remain comfortable over the next couple of days, at least. Highs in the low 80s are expected through Saturday, according to the National Weather Service. Patchy morning fog is also expected Thursday, and there’s a chance of light rain on Saturday morning, according to NWS.

Here are a few Summer Solstice Events happening today and this weekend in and around Los Angeles.

What are these "organizations that can assist educators in providing an additional incomeRead More source for school supplies?" What are the other "big retailers" besides Staples that are helping teachers with rewards programs? This is a great subject but there is little detail here beyond a link to the Staples program. Would love to read a follow up piece with more useful information.
