Get Involved: 5 Sierra Madre Nonprofits Where You Can Help Make a Difference

From the arts to helping children and seniors, Sierra Madre is a city rich in giving back while having fun.

Focused on helping out children and seniors in the community, the Kiwanis club is a nonprofit organization made up of volunteer members who meet weekly to discuss ideas, spearhead projects, and find out what can be done to help those in need. Anyone can join, as long as you are over 21 and in good-standing with the city. Dues are $65 monthly. The Sierra Madre Kiwanis Club meets each Tuesday at noon, at the Masonic Hall at 33 E. Sierra Madre Blvd.

Founded in 1960, the CAG provides enrichment in the arts for all ages. From discovering creative expression to developing knowledge and acceptance of arts of all types, CAG helps connect and infiltrate the creative hub that is so opulent in Sierra Madre. Annual memberships are as little as $50 and go up to the Benefactor status with a $1,000 donation.  Among services offered are: classes and workshops, benefits, birthday parties, artist receptions, exhibitions, and more. On top of memberships, volunteers are also welcome.

The Sierra Madre Woman’s Club is a volunteer organization composed of women from Sierra Madre and vicinity. They are dedicated to serving the community while developing lifelong friendships. Membership is open to women of all ages of all frames of minds. Many of the members volunteer at the well-loved Wistaria Thrift Shop located in the rear of the Essick House. Meetings are held the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month. Annual membership dues are $30 per club calendar year.

4. Sierra Madre Rose Float Association

An all-volunteer nonprofit, this association delivers world-class pieces of art each year. For the sixth straight year, the SMRFA has created a Rose Parade award-winning float. The Association is busy year round and depends on its members and volunteers to produce such high-quality aww-inducing floats. Membership is “just about $2 a month,” and comes with a hefty dose community pride on a national level.

5. Sierra Madre Rotary Club

Part of Rotary International, the Sierra Madre Rotary Club was founded in 1997 by a group of citizens intent on serving their community and sharing camaraderie. The Club meets every Tuesday morning from 7 a.m.-8:30 a.m. at the Hart Park House. According to the Club’s website, “Membership in all Rotary Clubs is by invitation, however, the Rotary Club of Sierra Madre heartily welcomes visitors to its meetings.”
