5 Things You May Not Have Known Can and Should Be Recycled

From computers to hangers, there's a way to recycle almost anything.

We all know the routine: reduce, reuse and recycle. Paper and plastics are easy, but what about those everyday items that don’t fit in recycling bins? Here’s a list of five items that you didn’t know could be recycled.

 1. Books

Have an old stack of mysteries that you’ve already read through? You can donate used books to the in Sierra Madre. All profits made will go towards funding library programs.

2. Hangers

Joan Crawford’s famous line in Mommie Dearest wasn’t completely true. You don’t have to get rid of your old wire hangers. In fact way, the best way to recycle hangers is to return them to the dry cleaner for re-use. If your hangers are in good condition, most dry cleaners will take them back.

 3. DVDs and CDs

With Blu-Ray discs and iTunes dominating the way we view entertainment, it may be time to recycle your old DVDs and CDs. You can donate gently used CDs and DVDs to .

 4. Computers

Old computers don’t have to collect dust in the attic – they can be recycled too. Always erase your hardrive before dropping off your old computer at a recycling center. Check out www.Earth911.org to find a list of computer donation centers in your area.

5. Cell Phones

Don’t throw your old cell phone away when you can donate it for a good cause. Every phone donated to Cell Phones for Soldiers will help increase the amount of talk time we’re able to provide to our troops.
