PUSD Board Could Lay Off as Many as 16 Teachers

The board will discuss the layoffs at a special session tonight. Possible lay offs include 16 teachers and over 74 full-time equivalent jobs

The Pasadena Unified School Board will discuss potential lay offs from budget cuts for the equivalent of 74 full-time jobs at a special session Tuesday night.

The lay offs include 16 teachers, who will likely be issued notices by the March 15 deadline for teachers to be notified of the possibility of not being retained for the following year.

The notices don't necessarily mean a teacher will be laid off: last year PUSD issued almost 160 notices but few teachers were actually laid off.

The cuts are listed in categories of impact.  The above numbers would be instituted if district officials instituted the maximum impact level of cuts, which would cut about $11 million from the budget.

The meeting will start at 6 p.m. in the regular meeting spot at the .
