Guide to 4th of July 2012 in Sierra Madre

Independence Day festivities kick off July 3 in Sierra Madre. Get parade, picnic and shuttle info, plus where to watch fireworks nearby.

Get your red, white and blue apparel ready! Sierra Madre’s July 4th festivities are right around the corner.

July 3

Evening Picnic in , 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Sierra Madre’s Independence Day celebrations kick off one day early in Memorial Park. Snack on food truck fare and box picnics from The Only Place in Town, grab a drink at the beer garden, listen to music from the band Groovy Lemon Pie and let your kids run wild with Bubble Wrap Fireworks. The Civic Club will also be selling confetti eggs.

Groovy Lemon Pie will be playing from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Bubble Wrap Fireworks will start at 8:00 p.m.

July 4

Firecracker Fun Run, 7:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

This 5k is open to runners of all ages, and will follow the parade route. Check-in is from 7:00 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. in Kersting Court. Registration is $25.

Woman’s Club Open House, 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

The Sierra Madre Woman’s Club is hosting a pre-parade open house at the clubhouse, 550 W Sierra Madre Blvd. Stop by for treats and a patriotic sing-along. More info here.

Fourth of July Parade, 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Sierra Madre’s annual parade kicks off at 10:00 a.m. at Sunnyside Ave. and Sierra Madre Blvd. and will continue down to Sierra Vista Park. Residents are encouraged to line-up on Sierra Madre Blvd. to cheer on the marchers.

Community Picnic, 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

A community picnic will commence as soon as the parade is over in . There will be free swim at the community pool, music by the Gem City Jazz Cats, barbecue treats, snow cones, a beer garden, a home run derby and much more. Bring the whole family for a memorable day!

Community games will kick off in Sierra Vista Park at 1:00 p.m.

Free Shuttle to the Community Picnic, 12:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Residents can ride a free shuttle to Sierra Vista Park on July 4 to avoid parking hassles. There are three pickup and drop off locations:

  • Sunnyside Ave. and Sierra Madre Blvd. (Southwest corner)
  • Memorial Park (South Hermosa and Sierra Madre Blvd.)
  • Baldwin Ave. and Sierra Madre Blvd. (Southeast corner)

Fireworks at the Rose Bowl

Pasadena’s Rose Bowl will be putting on a spectacular fireworks display as part of their AmericaFest 2012 celebration. Daytime festivities start at 2:00 p.m. Later, at 6:30 p.m., the stadium will open for seating. Opening ceremonies will begin at 7:15 p.m., followed by an “All American Thrill Show” featuring motocross tricks. Fireworks will start at 9:05 p.m.

Confetti Eggs

The Civic Club will be selling confetti-filled eggs as part of the celebrations.
