Doyle Appointed to PUSD Task Force

Bart Doyle was selected to serve on the Pasadena Unified School Districting Task Force by the City Council Tuesday.

The Sierra Madre City Council Tuesday appointed Bart Doyle to the Pasadena Unified School Districting Task Force. Doyle is a former mayor of Sierra Madre.

Councilmember Nancy Walsh said that Doyle has attended numerous PUSD meetings and has the knowledge, history and ability to serve on the committee.

Ricardo Sosapavone also applied for the spot on the task force. Sosapavone teaches full time at a university and has spent the last 36 years in education.

The council did not agree unanimously to appoint Doyle. Councilmember MaryAnn MacGillivray supported Sosapavone, while Councilmember Joe Mosca said either candidate would do.

The council ultimately moved to draft a request to the PUSD that Doyle serve as their official representative, with Sosapavone as an alternate.

Mayor John Buchanan said that the appointment is a political issue, but that Doyle knows the issues surrounding the PUSD task force “better than anyone.”

Residents attending the meeting expressed audible dissatisfaction at the news.

Doyle was recently named in a lawsuit (along with 12 other people and three companies) that alleges he attempted to defraud the City of El Monte plus state and federal agencies.
