Cow-Napping Suspect Still at Large

It’s been one week since iconic cow was lifted from its mini pasture in Kersting Court, sending kids, customers and owner Karen Klemens into a tailspin.

Though have released a surveillance snapshot of a suspect wanted for questioning in connection with the ice cream shop theft, there have been no developments in the case.

Lt. Patrick Buchanan of the SMPD told Patch they are working on the case “as much as we can.”

“We’re waiting for any information to come forth from the stuff we put out to the media,” said Lt. Buchanan.

The story turned out to be particularly moo-ving, not only for Patch readers, but for other L.A. news outlets as well. CBS, KTLA, the LAist and other news organizations across the Southland covered the case of the missing cow, with some sending news vans and TV cameras to Kersting Court to capture the story.

But despite the widespread news coverage and posting of flyers around Sierra Madre, the woman in the surveillance tape hasn’t come forward… and neither has anyone who may know her.

The surveillance video, captured with a camera owned by neighboring business , showed a woman leaving bar with an entourage of friends shortly after 12:30 a.m. last Thursday. The video then shows the woman walking away with the plastic cow in her arms.

Shop owner Klemens has asked the thief to return the cow to Mother Moo, no questions asked.

Though she's hoping that her beloved cow, who was decorated for holidays and petted by local children daily, will eventually be returned, Klemens has filled the mini green pasture with another animal: a sleeping stone pig.
